By Bus

Buses are another way to explore parts of the US and go from city to city. There are generally more route options compared to trains and you can often find low prices if you travel mid-week or find a special deal.

While buses travel on the same roads as other traffic, they tend to make more stops than if you self drive. They may not take the most direct route either, so expect longer travel times than by car.

Companies such as Greyhound, Trailways and BoltBus offer intercity busy service, or you can use sites to search several different route providers at the same time.

  • A sample one way economy fare from Seattle to New York will cost about $200 as of this writing. This is for a summer trip with numerous stops along the way, and about 5 different bus transfers.

  • That same trip will take about 66 hours of travel.
